More about Beer

Beer is a beautiful, quiet fishing village nestling in a small valley which opens into a sheltered bay fringed with white chalk cliffs. A brook flows down each side of the main street. It was said that you were not truly a local until you had fallen into it!

Living

Historically, the main sources of income for the town included fishing and lace production. Boats are winched up the beach (there is no "harbour"), and fresh fish is sold nearby. There are shops, restaurants, tea rooms, guesthouses and three pubs. Beer is also the home of the Pecorama model railway exhibition centre.

Transport

Regular bus services link Beer and Seaton with the nearby towns of Colyton, Axminster and to Sidmouth, Exeter, Lyme Regis, Bridport and Weymouth. The nearest mainline railway station is situated at Axminster with trains running direct to Exeter, Yeovil, Salisbury and London (Waterloo).

Education……

Beer has its own well organised primary school and pre-school group. The town lies within the catchment area of the highly acclaimed Colyton Grammar School, admission to which is dependent on passing an entrance exam. There are also alternative secondary schools located in Axminster, Sidmouth and Lyme Regis.
